New York City - top 10 hotels according to Forbes

© Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts

From Forbes Traveler comes their list of the top 10 hotels in New York. Really, they're in Manhattan, as eight of these hotels are only minutes from Central Park. Of these, I've only stayed in one (at someone else's expense of course), and that was the Four Seasons. Like anything that luxurious, it was a wonderful hotel and a great experience - but I'd rather spend my own money on tourist activities exploring the Big Apple. 14.25%, a 3-year increase in New York hotel sales tax

courtesy Michael Danser

Yes, it's true - New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has just announced a temporary increase in the city's hotel tax, by almost 1%. That brings the aggregate hotel tax to 14.25 percent, and an estimated $20 million extra tax revenue in 2009 and approximately $61 million in 2010. As for "temporary", the increase is in place until the end of 2011, or for nearly the next 3 years! To read more details, click here.
